Bassetti & Morse Remodel
Concept Design for a remodel to a Fred Bassetti style home on Mercer Island overlooking Lake Washington on a forested lot with expansive views. The home has wonderful qualities including floor to ceiling window assemblies and an open beam structure with timber framing.
Project Goals:
Maintain and enhance existing mid-century character
Refresh interior finishes and select exterior finishes
Enhance entrance and landscape throughout
Create better functionality in existing spaces
Increase storage opportunities throughout
Limit structural modifications
Existing House:
Fred Bassetti’s contributions to Seattle include the preservation of the Pike Place Market, the design of the Frye Art Museum, and the firm he founded, Bassetti Architects, is still pursuing the mission outlined by Fred Bassetti when he founded the firm in 1947: “Bassetti Architects continues this legacy of working with public and non-profit agencies to provide meaningful, enduring, and functional buildings.” My research on this home wove together the work of renowned architect Alvar Aalto whose firm Bassetti worked at after attending Harvard, Wendell Lovett and Lionel Pries. It has been a fascinating research project.
