Develop retail store concepts with Toronto-based consultancy Jackman to support Tokyo Smoke’s aggressive growth strategy outlined for Canadian cannabis retail. Prepare a survey of American dispensary concepts as well as a case study of (3) retail typologies that meet the goals of the Tokyo Smoke retail experience while maintaining compliance with the Liquor Control Board to inform future Tokyo Smoke retail design, highlighting design concepts in Eyewear, Luxury Accessories, and Fragrance retail, as each of these retail typologies have similar requirements for retail personnel and security. Utilize publicly available data from American cannabis retailers to identify which retail concepts were grossing similar volumes to business targets in order to not only review the store design from an aesthetic perspective, but also to create correlations between retail experience and economic viability. Often, stores with the best aesthetic design concepts were not the most economically viable. The analysis relied heavily on creating correlations on trends in stores with high sales volumes vs. those with lower volume sales to meet these volumes. The main balancing act for Tokyo Smoke retail would be the brand’s desire to create an educational experience and to maintain store efficiency to drive up the sales volume. The final concepts for Tokyo Smoke retail were informed by both the economics of creating a viable concept to support the operations required for high volume sales while achieving an eye catching store concept to create media sensation and provide customers with a comfortable experience achieving their ultimate goal of cannabis normalization.
